What you might not know is that our RhythmInfluence team maintains close relationships with almost all of our 45K influencers within our network. We think they are pretty fantastic and think you will too – which is why we want to showcase many of them and their work here on our blog in a “Meet the Influencer” series starting today.
Our first influencer being put in the “hot seat” is Chelsea Foy. Chelsea is the maker, blogger, and adventurer behind Lovely Indeed, a blog about all of the little things that make life lovely. Having resided in NYC for years, Chelsea now lives in her home state of California, where she spends her days painting things gold, oversharing, and generally making the world a lovelier place to be.
RhythmInfluence Team (RI): How did you get started?
Chelsea: When my husband proposed, I started a blog to document all of the projects we were making for our very DIY wedding. After we were married, I transitioned into just sharing about our life together and creating things for our new home. The blog developed a following and took off in a way that I never expected; I also didn’t expect to love it so much! It accidentally became my job, and I’m so grateful.
RI: Favorite thing about being an influencer?
Chelsea: I love having the opportunity to be creative and share that creativity on a daily basis. I’ve also met some of the most incredible people from all over the world, who I’m now proud to be able to call colleagues and friends. It really does bring people together.
RI: What inspires you?
Chelsea: Travel is my favorite source of inspiration. We stay on the go quite a bit because the world is just too exciting to stay in one place! And for me, travel doesn’t necessarily mean jumping on a plane. Inspiration can be found near and far, and exploring a new place just helps to open your eyes to beautiful things you might not notice otherwise.
RI: Do you have any pre/post rituals when creating content – and what are they?
Chelsea: Truthfully, I let the content dictate the process. Not every project is the same, and so not every process is the same for me. Usually, a concept will hit me at a random time and I’ll jot it down somewhere so I don’t forget. Then I go dig in my supplies to prototype the piece and if it works, we just keep going from there! At the end of putting together a piece of content, though, I do always go back and review to make sure that it all feels authentic and true to myself.
RI: Most adventurous thing you’ve done or fear that you’ve conquered
Chelsea: My husband and I once worked a job together that took us to China for 3 months! We were living and working in Shanghai, not speaking a word of Chinese, but doing our very best to soak up the culture and really enjoy the experience. Every day was a challenge and an adventure. My favorite story is our weekend trip to the Great Wall. We rode a bus so cold that there was ice inside the windows. We each had on two pairs of pants and three sweaters, and hiked 6 miles of the wall. I was sweating and the sweat would freeze in my hair as it fell down. At the end of the hike, you take a rickety zip line across a lake to get back to your bus. I’m still happily surprised that we made it back in one piece!
RI: What has been your favorite/most rewarding campaign to work on – and why?
Chelsea: I really love working on campaigns where I feel like the brand truly trusts me. I don’t take on work that I don’t believe in, so I want a brand to feel confident that I will represent them well. I’ve done quite a bit of work in the past with a floral brand (Flower Muse), who gave me full creative freedom and it was so much fun to be able to stretch my creative muscles while featuring their product.
RI: Why do you think influencer marketing is so powerful?
Chelsea: When influencer marketing is done right, the consumer feels as though they’re speaking with a friend. That’s what makes it so successful. As influencers, when we take the time to work with the brands that mean something to us, our followers can absolutely sense that and it establishes a certain level of trust. There is so much information coming at the general public from media these days, and when a follower can weed out the noise and focus on the influencers that they trust, everyone benefits.
RI: Based on your experience, what is one piece of advice you’d give to brands to help them work best with you (and other influencers)?
Chelsea: Communication is key. It’s difficult as an influencer to work with parameters that shift frequently, or with a point person who’s difficult to reach, or with a brand who doesn’t fully communicate expectations. Influencers want to do good work and to make sure that the brand is happy, while maintaining our own integrity and level of quality. I think to make all of these happen, communicating clearly is an integral part of the process.
RI: What are 5 things you can’t live without?
Chelsea: My family, My iPhone, Sour candy, Crushed ice and Sunshine
RI: Favorite invention of all time?
Chelsea: The camera. Being able to preserve moments is invaluable to me.
RI: Who is your favorite person from history (past or present)?
Chelsea: Tough one! Possibly Theodore Geisel, AKA Dr. Seuss. It seems like he did his very best to contribute so much good to the world.
RI: Favorite pig out food?
Chelsea: Ice cream! But not just any ice cream: Ben & Jerry’s Americone Dream.
RI: What’s one thing on your bucket list?
Chelsea: See as many Wonders of the World as I can! I’ve got a few under my belt already.
RI: If you could have a super power – what would it be?
Chelsea: The power to facilitate understanding between people.
RI: What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
Chelsea: My background is actually in music. I have a music education degree and taught high school choir for years, after which I moved to NYC and performed professionally as a music theatre actor. I’ve sung many times onstage at Radio City Music Hall, and toured nationally to theatres all across the country. Music and theatre are still a huge part of my life.
